Sunset and Waves

I wanted to combine two different pictures here.
I am wondering if the top layer (the one with the
waves) is too opaque? What would you have done differently?
All comments are appreciated:

Well, to answer your question, yes they are to opaque, light, white, whatever, and since you asked the question, you already knew the answer!!! You can tell that they were taken during more daylight hours and that the sun was coming at the waves instead of setting behind them. you could try shading them in the fronts and bottoms ( darkening them) of the waves to tone them down and make it look more like sunset behind them. They would be more tanslusent because the sun would be filtering through them. So you are working on layering pictures huh? Maybe go a little "less dramatic" of a change for a while, add or take away just a little something instead of the entire bottom or top half of a photo until you get the hang of shadings, blending and details. Other than the coloring of the waves its not bad, th sun shining on the water is pretty good, you could blend the white streak a bit more so the" streak " is not so ...uhhm I don't know how to say it, its just very straight edged and Crisp lined, not blended in like it would be normally on a photo such as this, but its not bad for a first shot Mel!

first, i would be interested in seeing the originals for this picture, and second...i do not like the coloring....now..see the sun? follow it down to the surf, do you see how it is just a thick line? to me, it doesn't look natural, so if you are going for the natural look then i would spread out the color a bit more to make it fall on the water. unfortunatly i have no clue if you can do that or not considering i have no clue about layers and the technique. good luck on the picture!

Thanks guys!
Will keep all that in mind...
